Jazz on the Pantiles—Meet the Musicians: Laura & Co
In the heart of Tunbridge Wells, Thursday nights in the summer months come alive with the sounds of Jazz on The Pantiles.
The Evolution of an Iconic Local Jazz Event
This event has in fact been enchanting audiences for an impressive 26 years. From its modest beginnings to its current status as a musical extravaganza, the legacy of the visionary David Jacobs continues to inspire.
In its early years, Jazz on The Pantiles featured duos and trios, with minimal amplification. Audience numbers were humble, but the intimate setting created a relaxed outdoor theatre vibe. Over time, the event expanded to showcase a diverse range of local, national, and international talent. Today, The Pantiles reverberates with the vibrant energy of jazz, uniting communities through the universal language of music.
A Harmony of Musical Styles: Laura & Co’s Unique Sound
Laura & Co offer a fresh take on popular music, infusing it with the timeless rhythms of swing. This distinctive approach results in interpretations that are as dynamic as they are captivating. The fusion of jazz, blues, funk, and soul creates a musical experience that transcends boundaries.
The challenge of photographing live performances lies in capturing the essence of the moment without being intrusive (flash is almost never allowed at live performances like these as it’s so distracting).
At Jazz on The Pantiles, the intensity of the performance was matched by the lighting: reds, purples, blues, and golden hues painted the stage, constantly shifting in tandem with the music.
