Who is this workshop for?

This shoot is ideal for film photographers seeking to experiment with night photography in a collaborative setting. While there won’t be formal instruction, mentoring and guidance to help you get the best from your camera on the night will be available, and you’ll have the opportunity to shoot alongside me and explore creative techniques. We’ll visit 3 to 5 photogenic spots close together to maximize shooting time.

La-La Land and Hollywood ‘noir’ inspired night film photoshoot

Picture cobbled streets, old-fashioned streetlamps, and neon lights. Use the cover photo as a rough mood board inspiration. Whether you prefer black and white or color, abstract or staged shots, the choice is yours. You’ll have a professional model couple with a dance background to bring dynamic energy to your images.

I have selected a model couple who have some experience of dancing, as dynamic and visually appealing subjects for the shoot, and also because they’ll be aware of what positions and moves will help create aesthetically pleasing photos. Please note they’re unlikely to have ‘La La Land’ level skills or be performing—it’s about getting into the pose…

What to bring?

Portable Flash: Optional, for flash experiments.

What to expect from the Night Film Portfolio Photoshoot?

We’ll meet between 7:30 PM and 7:45 PM. The models will arrive shortly before 8:00 PM, and we’ll then walk to the first of our 3 to 5 chosen locations for the evening. Each location is away from main roads to provide an ideal setting for night photography.

  • Group and Individual Shooting: Some locations will allow all participants to shoot simultaneously, while others may require taking turns, especially if using flash or long exposures.
  • Directing Models: During your turn, you can direct the models to capture the shots you envision. If you have specific ideas, let me know in advance so I can help facilitate them during the session.
  • After the Shoot: The photoshoot will end at 10:00 PM. You can continue shooting on your own or join me for a casual drink at a local pub or wine bar.

FAQs and Conditions

What happens if it rains?

If heavy rain is forecast, I may postpone the shoot, as most film cameras aren’t suited for wet conditions. Light rain or scattered showers will prompt a location change to provide cover. Please bring rain protection for your gear. I’ll let you know 24 hours before the shoot if it’s going ahead; if it’s cancelled or postponed, you’ll receive a full refund or you can choose to transfer to the alternative date.

What about if the models don’t turn up?

If the models don’t show up, we’ll take turns modeling for each other. I will provide a partial refund to account for my costs and any travel expenses paid to the models. This ensures that you still have a productive shoot and mitigates the impact of no-shows.

What about if I’m running late and can’t arrive on time?

Contact me via the WhatsApp group or the provided contact number. I’ll keep you updated on our location so you can join us when you arrive. Unfortunately, due to model payment terms, we can’t extend the session.

My plans have changed and I can’t come. Can I get a refund?

Refunds are only available if your spot is filled by someone from the waiting list or if you find a replacement. A £5 admin fee will be deducted. Please notify me in advance and provide the new participant’s contact details if you arrange a replacement.

Can I request specific shots or locations?

Yes, of course! Please message me before the shoot with any specific shots or ideas you have in mind. I’ll do my best to accommodate these requests during the session.
