Filming wave watching in Orkney

April 30, 2020

Wave watching at Marwick Head, Orkney with Richard Fray

It’s hard to believe I’ve only been home from Orkney a month, this feels a world away from what we’re living through now. This is the 9th video in the ‘Behind the Photographer’ series I shot while shadowing them on the Quiet Landscapes photography retreat in Orkney with Margaret Soraya and Paul Sanders.

This video features Richard Fray (on Instagram @richardfrayatgarvellan), and we were near the fishermen’s huts at Marwick Bay, near the Kitchener memorial. It’s incredible how the waves have sculpted the rocks into square and rectangular shapes.

I found it so difficult to choose which photo to feature for Richard, in the end I decided to show two of his pictures. The first one was taken from the very spot he appears in the video. The second I just had to include as it was so striking and different, it was taken further down the beach.

It was fascinating to see everyone’s favourite photographs from the retreat, and they bring back great memories, and reveal elements from the day I would have otherwise missed.

If you’re thinking that you need some video or editing, please do get in touch. I don’t just do travel filming; I also enjoy helping others get their talents recognised, and showcasing who they are and what they do. Maybe you have footage you’d like to do something with, and I can help edit it for you.
